"We stayed here with our child in a Sultane room for a few nights. Everyone at the hotel was lovely and helpful. The grounds were immaculate. The pool was warm, the chairs comfortable, the sun terrace glorious. We had our fireplace lit every evening and had drinks on our balcony. Breakfast is included and is delicious and plentiful. We also tried lunch and dinner in the restaurant - both very good as well. The servers were delightful and eager to please - always happy and smiling. Youssef at the front desk was terrific and helpful as was Luc, the manager. The garden is lovely - birds singing. The room was large and comfortable and beautifully decorated with huge ceilings and large windows opening onto a private garden with chairs and a hammock. We even loved the toiletries in the room. My only complaint was the pillows. But I find this issue at a lot of hotels. I can't understand why you would have such a wonderful luxurious room and such uncomfortable pillows. Please get some nice fluffy down pillows - and convince the owners of other lovely hotels to do the same!"

"We stayed here while in Marrakech. We had a suite. The room had a very large terrace and a spacious modern room. It was very quiet and felt very private. The common spaces are very nice as well, and the garden provides a peaceful retreat from the craziness of Marrakech's medina."

The next issue in a few days, at les Jardins de la Médina !

"Great Riad, in the southern part of the Old City and next to the Kasbah. Enter the front door, leaving the hustle-bustle behind you and you are in for a treat.
Excellent accommodation, fantastic food (and service)....can highly recommend !
Went half board, but still experienced a couple of lunches and a dinner outside of the accommodation..........and wish I had just stayed put........the food at the Les Jardins de le Medina is fabulous !
Try a massage here too, or the hammam."

The evening light ... @ Les Jardins de la Médina

Our customers speak

"Great personal service from all staff especially at Reception where staff were knowledgable and quick to provide any assistance required. The rooms were well appointed and we had the benefit of a covered balcony and a roof terrace. The restaurant was perfect with a well balanced menu for both lunch and dinner featuring local specialities with a French influence. The tropical gardens and pool provided a fantastic haven from the constant bustle of the Medina just outside the front door. Take a French phrasebook to get the best out of a stay in Marrakech!!"

"We had booked the restaurant to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary, and were not disappointed. The meal was fantastic, and was easily comparable to a Michelin Star restaurant in London - one of the best meals we have ever had. On the expensive side, but well worth it. The surroundings were wonderful, and the staff were very attentive. Will definitely be going again if we visit Marrakech."

"Stayed here 3 nights for an anniversary. Very special place, read loads of reviews but settled n this hotel. So glad we did, was just a beautiful welcoming attentive but not overbearing place to stay. Nothing was too much trouble and they made lovely little touches to our room. Toiletries in the room are gorgeous, the pool is chilly but once in a welcome cool off and great size for a swim unlike the plunge pools at raids. It took us about 20-25 minutes to walk to the main square mainly because of the various distractions along the way. Found it hard to leave the hotel on the first day was so relaxing! Amazing breakfast, an abundance of food and the owners were extremely welcoming with a cocktail/wine evening first night. No pressure or talk, just a easygoing welcome drink where you can meet other guests/staff if you choose to do so. Food was beautiful though pricey but we ate once there and the other two nights the amazing street food - def worth doing.
100% recommend."

"This hotel or riad is in the south of the Medina. On arrival you pass through narrow, busy streets where locals are going about their daily business. You then pass through Le Jardin de la Medina's door and are transported into an oasis of calm. With excellent service and a friendliness the riad has a lovely pool area as well as a traditional feel with elements of luxury added. We used the hotel as a base for a week and they arranged drivers and local guides who took us to the Atlas Mountains. All quietly and efficiently organised. We were located about a 25 minutes walk to the main square which was always an interesting journey! From here you sawZreal life; people shopping, children playing and we enjoyed the sounds and smells of Morocco. We had a fabulous time in the hotel and in the country. I'd fully recommend it."

"This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Beautiful gardens, clean rooms, fantastic pool area, helpful and attentive staff and lots of added extras make this hotel truly special. We were offered an upgrade upon arrival, which after a particularly stressful day of travelling was hugely appreciated. Marrakech can be somewhat overwhelming at times, so having this peaceful hotel to retire to in the evenings was heavenly. We also ate in the restaurant and it turned out to be one of the best meals we had all week.

The attention to detail in this hotel is incredible. I would definitely stay here again when visiting Marrakech and can't recommend it highly enough."

"Having travelled most of the world and having stayed in many of the best and perhaps some of the worst hotels, I can truly say this is one of the best. It is luxurious, elegant, refined and manages to create a laid back atmosphere. The work both front of house and behind the scenes creates an hotel worthy of any visit to Marrakech. The staff are charming, helpful and totally unobtrusive. The rooms, gardens, and the beautifully prepared excellent food and drinks are exceptional and are presented in a delightful manner. Clearly it is an oasis of peace and tranquillity in the midst of a fascinating and very bustling city. I enjoyed my stay every bit as much as my earlier stays in La Mamounia which is not to detract from the latter but simply to highlight the standard of this very special place"

"I just spent one night at Jardins de la Medina. This little piece of heaven nestled in the old and charming medina of Marrakech is just a stunning property. Great lush gardens, beautiful pool and warm and professionnal staff. The rooms are spacious and some of them benefit from a nice solarium which is great to enjoy total privacy while sunbathing. I particurlaly loved the bathroom and its shower in dark tadelakt and also the beds that are extremly smooth and confortable. Food is also excellent. I will definitely come back!"

"We loved this hotel! Location is just a bit away from the main areas of Marrakech, but honestly that's no bad thing. Gardens are lovely, pool - small but nice, restaurant very good, our room small but well appointed. BUT I had the best service from the reception staff who really went the extra mile in getting me a charger from my camera battery in under 2 hours (having asked at 7.30 pm on a Friday with no real hope of getting one that night). They exceeded expectations and were superb. Would highly recommend."

"This hotel was even better than we had expected and the staff were extrmely helpful. There were lots of nice touches all around the place, and the atmosphere and the food were excellent. The breakfast in particular was generous. The bedroom was very comfortable and well warmed (in January.) We enyoyed the gardens the roof terrace and pool. We had to remind ourselves we were there ot go out and do some sightseeing. (The town of Marrakech slightly disappointed us and so it was tempting to stay in the nice confines of the hotel.)

The restaurant was not cheap and so we chose to eat out some times, but as we had got what we felt was a good rate for bed and breakfast through the travel company we booked with, overall it represented reasonable value.

If pressed to identify shortcomings, I would say that the waitresses in the restaurant at breakfast were a little slow to clear dirty plates and the serivce at dinner was leisurely."

Rest and relaxation

Our customers speak

"Excellent hotel within the medina. The gardens provide a lush oasis to retreat to after visits to the busy medina and souks. The pool is beautiful and the rooms are luxurious.
The staff can be quite loud as they arrive for duties and do not seem concerned at all about waking you with loud voices and noisy duties.
The restaurant was very nice. The dinner menu is a bit limited if you plan on eating at the hotel more than once.
The breakfast table was busy with birds eating the uncovered pastries.
The four hand massage is highly recommended.
The roof deck is delightful but has an awful sewer like odor that sometimes blows over the space.
The professional staff is delightful and helpful."

To enjoy

Our customers speak

"Super hotel, attentive staff. Although it's "next door" to the souk, the hotel is quiet and ideally
situated for touring the souk on foot..
The hotel has a lovely heated sunny swimming pool set in a beautiful garden dotted about with mature trees.
Well appointed, warm bedrooms. TV has BBC ! and 2.

Log fires in the bar and restaurant at night. and a welcoming log fire in the restaurant for breakfast.
French and Moroccan cooking is good.
Small torch an asset as lighting in garden at night is dim.

"This is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. We received a warm welcome on arrival and throughout our stay the service was friendly, helpful and unobtrusive. There is a peaceful ambience pervading every part of the hotel and it is very easy to feel completely at home. The food is fantastic too! We stayed for only four nights and were sorry that we did not have time to sample the beauty centre or the hammam. We found it very difficult to leave and we only managed to do so by promising ourselves a return visit!"

"Les Jardins de la Medina is an oasis in the busy city of Marrakech. Its within walking distance of the main square and is easy to navigate to and around compared to some other hotels down winding side streets.
The central courtyard is pretty spectacular, and perfect for spending relaxing afternoons by the pool. The hotel is in imaculate condition and the rooms are of a really good standard. The staff are very helpful and friendly and overall its hard to find fault with the place.
We had an amazing time while staying there and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone."

20 best riads in Morocco !

"A riad surrounded by lush gardens offers blissful calm amid Morocco’s hectic urban life. Annabelle Thorpe picks her favourites.
Morocco is famous for its riads but somewhere along the way the meaning of the word has become muddled: a townhouse with rooms around a courtyard is a dar; to be a riad, the house must have a garden, ideally divided into quarters with a central fountain.

Our customers speak

"This is a hotel of great character and comfort, located in the Kasbah area. Situated on an unobtrusive street, the old wooden front door gives little clue as to the elegant and sophisticated establishment within. This hotel is really a great refuge (and antidote) to the hurley-burley and often full-on nature of Marrakech street life outside. The gardens filling the central courtyard are luxuriant. The dining room is large, with an antique atmosphere and with a background aroma of woodsmoke and spices. Meals are served with a sense of style & occasion by the atentive staff. My wife, son and I shared a well-appointed room for our stay, which was quite big enough for the double plus extra bed. The room was located off a small and intimate courtyard with table, chairs and bubbling fountain (turned off at night). TV channels included BBC (so you can compare the rotten British weather with that outside). Don't forget to try the comfy chairs and settees up on the roof terrace, listen to the doves, watch the storks flying overhead and enjoy views over to the Koutoubia Mosque tower on one side and the distant Atlas mountains on the other. Or the pool in hot weather."

Night ambience

Our customers speak

"My husband and I spent a week in Morocco and ended our trip in Marrakech. We were slightly intimidated by the number or people and motorcycles and donkeys and cars zooming through the Medina at any given moment and were therefore extremely grateful every time we walked inside the serenity of Les Jardins de la Medina. The rooms were large and gorgeous! The courtyard was lined with flowers and orange trees and the pool was warm and private and could barely be seen from each room's private roof top terrace. The spa was cheap and lovely and the restaurant was simply beautiful."

Hammam Atmosphere

Our customers speak

"My daughter and I spent 4 days in Marrakech, in January and could not have asked for a more beautiful setting. We had a lovely, spacious room ( very comfy beds) on the second floor with a large bathroom and sitting area, they even have dvd collection so that you can watch a movie in your room.
The grounds are beautiful and even though you are close to the hustle and bustle of the medina and souks once you enter the grounds you feel like you are in your own secret garden.
The food as well was delicious the breakfast buffet had a great selection, and we ate twice in the restaurant for dinner which was top notch.
The spa services( we had facials and massages) where a welcome treat after a full day of walking.
I would recommend without hesitation"

"We stayed in Les jardin de la Medina for one week in January for my husband's birthday. The staff and atmosphere were very nice. Good service and helpful for everything that we asked for. They have a very good restaurant too. At the beginning we planned to try different restaurant in marrakech . But we found out from the first dinner that we already have the best in the town. At the end we decided to have all our 7 dinners in our hotel . We are owner of restaurant in norway so we know what Is Good food mean. They served amazing food and the service was excellent. Specially on my husband birthday, they prepared the soft cake which my husband used to have for his birthday in norway. The servers even came over with the cake and sang the birthday song for him in front of our table. We will definitely coming back."

Alternative Marrakech

The Gardens of Marrakech by calèche (by horse-drawn carriage)
The Jardins de la Medina enjoys a convenient location in the Kasbah and invites you to enjoy a unique ride in a horse-drawn carriage to discover the Gardens of Marrakech in a different way:
Your coach awaits you right outside the front door of the hotel and takes you to the nearby Méchouar. This word is derived from the Arabic word Sar Maswar  meaning the ‘Council Office’.
This courtyard situated close to each Royal Palace was used to administer justice or for large public gatherings. You will also see the Agdal Gardens, as vast itself as the entire Medina (old walled town), then the Menara Gardens, laid out under the Almohad Dynasty. At heart of these huge gardens of olive trees, is a huge irrigation basin which is overlooked by a very photogenic pavilion. Legend has it the Sultan threw his mistress from the balcony during the night. The tour continues through the peaceful gardens of the Koutoubia, ending at  Les Jardin de  Majorelle.
Created by the French painter Jacques Majorelle, then owned by Yves Saint Laurent, the gardens have since been fully restored but its
soul has been preserved......Bougainvillea, cypress, coconut and cactus palms and papyrus, all create a stunning floral design. Without doubt, one of the most beautiful urban gardens in the world.
At the end of this journey, you return back to the the green haven of your hotel for a cooling break in the shade of the large jacaranda........

"Our second visit, and once again very successful for a very relaxing week's break. Marrakech is a very exciting city to visit but to be able to return to Les Jarden de la Medina after a hectic, hot few hours exploring the surroundings of the Medina, is a very welcoming and tranquil experience where all staff are very attentive. We do say that we will return for a short break, but I really think that another full week is on the cards. Thank you all."

Our Superiors rooms

Our customers speak

"Les Jardins de la Medina was an exquisite riad--elegant, relaxing, friendly, and comfortable. The rooms were fabulous, with truly beautiful Moroccan decor, and the large pool in the garden provided a perfect way to cool down after a day in the medina. Next time I would love to take one of the Moroccan cooking classes they offer. We were traveling with our teenage son and daughter and we all loved it. Would definitely stay there next time we are in Marrakech--highly recommended."

Beautiful rooms, pool immaculate, restaurant food consistently very good. Lovely place to stay and worth the extra cost."

Al Maqam : The Artist’s village

In the small village of Tahanaout ,which nestles in a green valley planted with olive groves, on the road to Taroudant, the painter Mohamed Mourabiti has built his house and installed a lovely artist’s residence. Well known Moroccan painters, such as Mahia Binebine and Yamou come to paint at his workshops in studios open to nature, but the residence is also open to lesser-known artists from Morocco and around the world, for whom some rooms have been built around a pretty swimming pool. The place certainly seems to be conducive to inspiration; it exudes a special charm, is designed with taste and simplicity and in the image of the person who conceived it. Visitors come from Marrakech for lunch and to enjoy this unique place, tucked away in the countryside, far from the tourist trails. Al Maqam, is also a literary café where cultural events and exhibitions are organised, but also a library/bookshop full of books on Moroccan painting. If you are interested in contemporary Morocccan art, this is the place is for you!  Another interesting feature of this Al Maqam: its tasty traditional Moroccan cuisine which is reasonably priced and served in the garden or in one of the salons……

Aïcha reigns over the Square !

You can’t miss Stand no.1 on the Place Jemaâ el Fna. Firstly because it’s the biggest, secondly because it’s run by a woman ! Coming from a Moroccan family from Derb Dabachi, Aïcha boldly opened a little mobile stall there almost 30 years ago… Offering just omelettes, potatoes and mint tea…..at that time, the Square was a place of relaxation for  Moroccans of the neighbourhood and from the countryside, for those who came to negotiate in the souks and sleep in the foundouks ( inns)…. The stall grew bigger, the Jemaâ el Fna became a ‘must see’ and ‘Chez Aïcha’ a must eat’ ! This self-taught cook very quickly managed to expand her business and to become one of the most reputed of those listed in the Rough Guide, the Lonely Planet, Tripadvisor…..Although omlettes are still on the menu, these days we visit Aïcha mainly for her couscous,  her grilled meats and her Tangia ! As for the waiters, what can you say, they’re fast and smiling ; somewhat boastful and even multilingual, working under the sharp eye of Aïcha who watches over her fifteen employees (up to 20 in high season) from her control tower….. Her biggest dream ? ‘To one day manage a very large restaurant,  here or abroad,  why not !’ A cuisine to taste, a character to meet….. Wow ! Why not, Aïcha, as Chef at Les Jardins de la Medina for an evening ?
