Our customers speak

"This hotel is an oasis of calm amidst the Kasbah's bustle, with all the modern comfort amenities (WIFI working all the time etc.), so very near to all the major sights and staffed by people wanting to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The three of us stayed for 8 days during Ramadan 2012; because of Ramadan, service was (only) slow between 19.30 hours and 20.15 hours each night. Mind you, every word of praise I read in the reviews on TripAdvisor from other travellers prior to my booking a few weeks ago, is true. I definitely recommend this lovely spot."

New Year’s Eve Les Jardins de la Medina

We have pleasure of advising you of our 2012 New Year’s Eve programme, which has been designed as a journey through the History of the Popular Arts of Morocco.  We thought up this event with the help of Moroccan and Berber artists, coming from the major musical regions of the Kingdom – authentic and far from the commercial tourist trails.

The stages of the dinner will be illustrated by five tableaux of dance and traditional music, and the Gnaoua musicians from Essaouira will have the pleasure of providing the background music for the entire evening.

Traditional tattoos, calligraphy, culinary arts, oriental dancing
percussionists.....acrobats, both traditional and more recent music will give rhythm to your day, as well as your evening….. which we hope will be long and warm.

The Programme

From 11.00 – 18.00: Calligraphy, Henna tattoos and Mint Tea

\  In Morocco, henna decoration is an embellishment and a symbol of celebrations without any religious significance. A Neqacha, will be available to suggest some traditional tattoos, only temporary ones, of course... (our brown henna is natural, therefore no significant risk of any allergies).
\  Both literary and ornamental art, Calligraphy is primarily an alphabet with natural shapes, sometimes recalling a blade of grass, sometimes an animal’s hoof or a shell. Omar, a painter and calligrapher, will be present all day to introduce you to this so elegant script.
\  Similarly, you can learn at any time, how to make mint tea with all its associated scents.

The evening starts at 19.30 on the large sun terrace. While swaying with the hypnotic rhythms of the Gnaoua musicians, our cocktail will introduce you to the “Pearls of the Atlas”, a sweet sparkling Moroccan wine, which goes well with the scallops which are being cooked in front of you, plus other variations of savoury ‘verrines’ (small glasses) and other fine delicacies.

Our second tableau starts at 20.30 by the central fountain, right next door to our ‘Berber Farm’ for this evening. After Essaouira, the  region of Agadir  will present its show with performing acrobats from Ouled Sidi Ahmad. The fire-eater will juggle alongside the acrobats, to the rhythm of the Houarites, a traditional group of female musicians from Marrakech.

After this starter, it’s time for our team to guide you to the restaurant, where the Arabian-Andalucian orchestra will serenade you, while you make your way to your table where you will discover our special tajine with its four different flavours, a surprise initiative of our chef.

This delight of the senses will continue until midnight:

The Ahouachs from Kalaâ M’gouna (in the High Atlas) will present a traditional dance performed during family celebrations or moussems (festivals, usually religious).

Fresh foie gras of seared duck, chutney made from ‘Fruits of the Atlas’, candied pear and pomegranate with argan oil vinaigrette.

The Gnaouas from Essaouira will  perform several dances, varying their rhythms and musical instruments according to the occasion; this will be their second performance of the evening.

Tajine of king prawns from Dakhla, flavoured with saffon from the High Atlas

Between the fish and meat dishes, you will savour our delicious house  “Trou Berbėre” (a fig sorbet with fig liqeur), evoking the rhythms of the Orient.
Filet of veal with marrow, ‘Bordelaise’ red wine sauce and glazed baby vegetables.
The Houariates fom Marrakech will get you moving during the last moments of this year - 2012.
At midnight, the entire troupe of musicians, dancers and artists will  join you to welcome in the New Year!

\  Black chocolate, ‘chibouste’ (cream) and hazelnut praline with basil ice-  cream

01 January 2013
After a short night’s sleep, we suggest that you start the New Year with our brunch at 12.30 served by the pool. A cocktail of flavours, fresh seasonal produce and Moroccan and southern culinary fragrances, an ideal recipe for a good start to the New Year!

Our customers speak

"A beautiful little hotel at the south end of the Kasbah, close to the Royal Palace and Saadian Tombs. The rooms are tastefully decorated, very clean and comfotable. The bar, restaurant and heated pool are great places to eat, drink, relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of the old town after those long days out exploring. The food is very good- expect to pay about £35pp for three courses including wine. Though there are good inexpensive alternatives nearby, such as the Kasbah Cafe which is only a 5 minute walk away. Overall, this hotel is excellent, the staff very friendly, along with service to match. Only minor negative is the location, which is on the outskirts of the old town and many of the attractions, however if you don't mind walking then this shouldn't be a concern. It's about a 15 minute walk to the main square or a £1.50 taxi ride. Highly recommended".
